Charles DeStefano introduces NYC Comptroller, Scott Stringer at the Staten Island “Red Tape Commission”

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Got red tape? Yes, indeed, said Staten Islanders as they took to the mic Monday night at St. John’s University, Grymes Hill. Comptroller Scott Stringer and his Red Tape Commission lent a sympathetic ear to bureaucratic frustrations and tedious government dealings.

Attorney Charles De Stefano called Stringer a “creative” elected official who “uses his heart” to solve issues. “He has not forgotten us. He wants to engage us,” said DeStefano to a round of applause.

The goal of the Red Tape panel is, first, to listen, then attack the red tape. Ultimately, it will try to break down bureaucracy one gripe and suggestion at a time.

As Manhattan Borough President, Stringer happily cut a lot of ribbons for entrepreneurial endeavors and grand openings. But the very next day, the City comes in “to milk the business,” he said.

“So, we’re here today to listen to your stories,” he said.
